Schedule

09:30 Welcome coffee (room HIL D55.2)
10:30 Michael Cramer (University of Stuttgart, Germany): Welcome
Words of welcome
PDF presentation
10:45 Henri Eisenbeiss (ETH Zurich, Switzerland): UAV-g technology
Short introduction about UAV-g technologies
PDF presentation
11:15 Jurgen Everaerts (VITO, Belgium): Legislative aspects - experiences from Belgium
UAVs are becoming a useful tool for remote sensing, and they bring us into a world that is very much concerned about safety. In this part we explore the world of civil aviation and its regulation.
12:00 Lunch
13:30 Magali Barbier (ONERA-DCSD, France): Management and planning of UAV flight pattern
To perform their mission autonomously, UAVs should implement a software architecture that allows a vehicle to execute the planned actions and to react to disruptive events. After a general description of the functions of these architectures, this course will focus on several applications taken from Onera-DCSD experiments with VTOLs, especially laser mapping, vision mapping and target tracking. Finally, the interest of UAVs coordination for localization purposes will be introduced with the Action project.
PDF presentation
14:15 Guillaume Druart (ONERA-DOTA, France): Review of different designs of optical payloads for micro-UAV
There is currently a need for miniaturized optical systems in order to give an imagery function to vehicles with small payload capacity, such as micro-UAVs. This course reviews some design strategies to build such compact cameras. We will talk about what we can learn from Nature, design strategies based on the formalism of third-order Seidel aberrations and co-design between optics with specific detectors or specific image processing. This course will end with a practical case: the miniaturization of cooled infrared cameras.
PDF presentation
15:00 Coffee break (HIL D55.2)
15:20 Roland Haarbrink (Miramap, The Netherlands): Overview on existing applications using UAV-g and perspectives
16:05 Marc Pierrot Deseilligny (IGN, France): Photogrammetry with UAV
PDF presentation
16:50 Marc Pierrot Deseilligny pour Bruno Roux (Avion Jaune): Aerial cartography with UAVs

Target group

Members of (national) surveying agencies and companies who plan to use UAVs for mapping purposes and university members (professors, teaching assistants, PhD students, etc.) who would like to get more information and inputs about this topic for integration into future lectures.
